Body composition is one of the most crucial factors to be aware of for your health and longevity. If your weight, BMI, astrological sign and best friend all agree that you are healthy but your body composition is still upside down then there are still things to deal with. It would be great if all body composition methods that are used are equal but they aren't. The BMI measurement is woefully outdated and doesn't really tell us much about visceral fat, subcutaneous fat or brown fat. It also doesn't tell us much about your bone density or how much muscle mass you have on your body. Strangely enough your best friend and your astrological sign are equally as useless in this regard.
The InBody 570 gives everyone involved in the Core Life program an accurate reference point to make decisions about how to exercise, manage their nutrition and ultimately what needs to change in their day to day life in order to alter their body composition. If improving your long term health was as simple as losing weight then you could just drink diet water and eat diet broccoli for 3 months. Would you lose a ton of weight? Yes! Would you hate this process? Yes! Would you lose a ton of muscle mass in this process? Yes! Would you also see different numbers on the scale? For sure. The problem with this plan is that while you may end up lighter you end up metabolically worse because you more than likely lost a bunch of muscle tissue in this process.
When you think about body composition it should come to mind that the body is composed of many different kinds of tissues, organs and bones. Your bones weigh something. Your organs weigh something........your tissues.......well you get the idea. If you lose weight but it comes from your brain. that is most likely not the outcome you were looking for. So what we are really talking about when we talk about changing body composition is increasing the amount of metabolic tissue(muscle) and decreasing our amount of body fat. If the process of body composition change is not based around muscle increase and fat decrease then it's totally just about a weight number. This generally leads to riding the roller coaster of bodyweight up and down without positive health changes ever taking place. So instead of just watching the weight on the scale go up and down over time work towards sustainable change by basing your efforts around some more detailed information than just the scale. That way you can make changes that revolve around truly changing your body from the inside out.
